Whether it’s Halloween or Christmas, your birthday or your BFF’s wedding, humans have celebrations for everything. But some celebrations are so totally bizarre they’re almost hard to fathom. If you didn’t see it with your own eyes you might have trouble believing there is an entire festival dedicated to celebrating tarantulas. Oh, and we can’t forget about the cook-off inspired by roadkill. From a get-together dedicated to mooning an Amtrak train to a music festival underwater, these are the weirdest festivals and gatherings in the United States.

If you hate mushrooms you’ll definitely want to stay away from a certain festival coming up!

Every year in Roswell, New Mexico, the city hosts an annual three-day event for UFO and alien enthusiasts alike. It is a celebration of the highly debated-topic of the supposed Roswell UFO crash in 1947. The festival is organized by the MainStreet in Roswell with several other partnerships and brands, alien-related and not. The event has guests speakers, live performers, authors, a costume contest, parade, and even a pet costume contest.

The festival takes place annually during the summer and attracts people from all around the world. With over 37,000 attendees in 2017, it is the largest UFO festival in the world. The city anticipates bigger crowds each upcoming year!
