Raja Kumari Interview
We speak to the Cali rapper about her debut EP & songwriting credits.

After penning hits for artists as diverse as Fall Out Boy, Fifth Harmony and Iggy Azalea, Raja Kumari finally released her debut EP in 2016 and immediately found a worldwide following. The singer/rapper is now teasing the followup with a new single called, “I Did It.” A fiery celebration of her independence, the catchy song blends Indian rhythms with hip-hop beats. That same unique marriage of influences is reflected in the video clip, which pays tribute to her heritage.

The stylish clip begins with a dance sequence that combines Bollywood moves with hip-hop choreography, followed by a series of glamorous looks. Raja has definitely come a long way since writing hits for other artists. “Songwriting taught me the most about my artistry… what I could write for others and what I had to keep for myself,” she told us in an interview last year. “I got to experience selling a million records before I ever released one of my own songs. My songwriting career gave me a lot of confidence. I had done it once, I knew I could do it again!”
