Chance the Rapper holds close ties to his native Chicago, so it only makes sense that he’d give back to his own community. In 2017, Chance announced that he would donate $1 million to Chicago Public Schools.

He also announced plans for more funding with the help of Common. The rapper made the announcement after a meeting with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner, in which Chance said he was given vague answers during their conversation about public education and issues affecting Chicago and Illinois as a whole. Chance said, “Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positions.”
