Rumors of a Spice Girls reunion have been springing up with increasing frequency. Although the “2 Become 1” sirens haven’t performed together since closing out the 2012 Olympic Games in London, fans are clamoring for them to get back together again. In 2016, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B dropped a song called “Song For Her” and teased plans of launching a splinter group called GEM, but things stalled rapidly. Last year The Sun reported that all five of the original members (including Victoria Beckham who has previously resisted plans) signed on for an official comeback. They were expected to drop a greatest hits album, but since then the rumors have changed every month. Things took a turn yesterday (July 23) when Mel B promised something was in the works during an interview.

Speaking on the British talk show, Loose Women, she said a performance was planned for before the end of the year. “We’re sisters at the end of the day and what we went through was quite an amazing, brilliant, journey so we’re together, we’re back together,” she said. She also alluded to potential tension with getting Victoria to sign on for the plans. However, she promised that everything is coming together. “There’s one that’s been a bit difficult. But she’s getting roped in.” It will be interesting to see if the quintet are able to finalize plans. So far there has been no announcement regarding if the comeback entails a tour or a new musical release. The group dropped their last album, Forever, in 2000, and they reunited for a tour across North America and Europe in 2007 and 2008. Fingers crossed they are able to pull off something equally impressive once again. Revisit their defining hit, “Wannabe,” below!
