Madonna Graces The Cover Of ‘Vogue Italia’ In Honor Of Her 60th Birthday
Next month the Queen of Pop is celebrating a landmark birthday. On August 16, Madonna turns 60. She is kicking off the celebrations a little early with a gorgeous photoshoot in the pages of Vogue Italia. The collaboration was announced today (July 30) as a series of pictures appeared online. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (collectively Mert & Marcus), it highlights her new life in Lisbon, Portugal. Titled “Just One Day Out Of Life,” it features a bevy of glamorous looks. On the dual covers, the “Living For Love” siren posed in monochromatic black on the Herdade do Perú estate. In one snap she and her daughters, Mercy James, Stella and Estere explore an elaborate garden. In another, she peacefully reclines in a field. Dressed in a white gown and with a crown of baby’s breath in her hair, it is a truly stunning look.
Although the accompanying interview (conducted by Xerxes Cook) originally meant to serve as a retrospective on her impressive career, it took a turn. “She proposed the Lisbon angle and it turned out to be a very personal interview, more interesting than doing a retrospective of the artist or a story on her African projects, which have already been explored,” Giovanni Bianco, Vogue Italia’s creative director, explained in an interview with WWD. He added that the shoot highlighted a different side of her life than what is typically captured. “In this shoot, you see more of her maternal side; she is fascinating with her children and friends — she is an example.”
The issue hits newsstands Friday (August 3). The feature will be accompanied by stories and anecdotes about Madonna from friends, co-workers, collaborators and others. Scroll through a gallery of photos from the shoot up top and check out Vogue Italia’s official announcement below!
