The princess is here, and she is riding in on another automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh beat. 2018 is turning out to be a big year for Ciara. After taking some time off music, the 32-year-old returned with last month’s “Level Up.” Armed with a heavily choreographed video and an accompanying viral dance challenge, her comeback single is making a strong showing on the Billboard Hot 100. This week it peaked at the number 59 spot and still shows signs of climbing higher. And that’s not all. The diva reunited with Missy Elliott on a feisty remix, and today (August 10), she is already back with another single. Earlier this week she took to social media to announce “Freak Me,” a collaboration with Nigerian artist, Tekno. “Been dying to share this with you! Can’t wait,” she announced alongside the vibrant cover.

She promised to deliver an anthem with an African flavor and definitely pulled through. While “Level Up” was a straightforward banger, CiCi’s latest overflows with more summery vibes. Over a bright production, the hitmaker hosts a sexy body party while trading off flirty lines with her collaborator. “Wine slow on it, take control of it. Take all of it, yeah, all of it. Said you want it, now you own it,” the siren coos. “I like it when you get it down so loco. Put it down on the African boy,” Tekno languidly demands. Things build up to the chorus, which is an outpouring of sensual energy. “I’ll be the freak, be the freak, be the freak, be the freak that you need. No, no, I won’t tell nobody, I won’t tell nobody how you freak my body.” The end result is another irresistible offering, and this one is perfectly tailored to close out the season on a high point.

Keep an eye peeled for the accompanying music video. Considering the icon’s track record, it is sure to be another fiery affair. And with any luck, Ciara will land her second hit of the year. It is unclear if she is building up anticipation to drop an album or simply keeping fans sated with buzz tracks. However, either way, her return is one of the more exciting developments of the year.
