Pop music is saved! Today (September 4) we learned that the return of Ashlee Simpson is nearly upon us. After taking a lengthy break from music, the 33-year-old is linking up with her husband Evan Ross to release a new single titled “I Do” this Friday. The track drops ahead of the premiere of their Ashlee+Evan reality show on Sunday. Every week the duo has plans to release a new single to coincide with a new episode of the show, which will air on E!. Based on the song’s title, it seems safe to expect that their first offering will be a romantic anthem.

The “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)” siren commemorated the news with a new spread for W magazine. Photographed by Emily Lipson, she and Evan posed for a handful of stripped back shots. In the accompanying interview she also reflected on her journey and her decision to return to the reality TV. However, she assured fans the focus would remain on her music. “Evan and I, when we first started dating, we wanted to do an album about love. For me, it was taking a leap and saying, ‘If I’m really going to do it, I have to put myself out there,’” she said. The hitmaker also alluded to the potential of new solo music. “Of course we’ll both make our own albums after, but it’s been fun to do it with the person that I love the most.”

When asked about what direction her solo album would talk, she dropped some exciting details. “A solo album for me right now would be a little more…I don’t know,” she mused. “There would definitely be a hint of that pop-rocky sound, but still that soul that I grew up listening to.” It sounds like this could be very epic. While we wait for “I Do” to arrive, scroll through Ashlee and Evan’s new photos up top, read the rest of her feature here and check out their official single cover below!
