Charli XCX’s Cover Of The Stooges’ “No Fun” Is Pretty Fun: Listen

This is why Charli XCX is so well-regarded within music geek circles. She’s deeply entrenched within the radio pop world, having written songs for Iggy Azalea and Selena Gomez and landed her own Top 10 single, and yet she’s one of the only artists in that world who would even attempt to pull off a cover of The Stooges‘ proto-punk strutter “No Fun” (and it’s not her first punk foray).

She approaches it faithfully, as it’s for the latest edition of the soundtrack for HBO’s Vinyl, and while we’re not even gonna try to compare her to Iggy Pop, Charli’s British sneer works well with this sound, and she throws in a few solid howls at the end.

A ton of Vinyl soundtrack sets have been rolled out throughout the season so it’s been hard to keep up, but it’s worth sifting through it all because you’ll find some unexpected gems like this.

Hear it below.
