Pop darling Poppy made waves with her Diplo-assisted “Time Is Up” when it dropped last month. The apocalyptic electro-pop anthem sees her in the role of a machine living after the extinction of humankind. It also marked the first collaboration with the super-producer who signed her to his Mad Decent record label back in 2017. Since then the accompanying video has amassed more than one million views on YouTube. And last night (September 10), the rising star hopped on The Late Late Show With James Corden for her first television performance of the evocative single. Incorporating elements from the visual, she brought the ominous bop to life in an unexpected way.

Dressed in a striking black and white bodysuit, the siren transformed the stage into a futuristic lab. Siting in a luxurious chair, she was flanked by two tubes containing dancing women and flashing screens displaying their vitals. The trio were joined by dancers dressed in lab coats and gas masks. As the song progressed, Poppy left her seat and executed some choreography of her own. Moving with the robotic grace of an android, she returned to her throne to watch as the humans around her lost their energy. “Baby your time is up,” she chillingly warned one last time as the music faded away underneath her voice.

It was the perfect way to bring the track to life and is sure to raise excitement around Poppy’s forthcoming album. Due in October of this year, it was rumored to be called AM I A GIRL? This is also the name of the hitmaker’s upcoming world tour, which she kicks off in Vancouver on September 14.
