A Glorious Return! Mariah Carey Drops Her Sassy Anthem, “GTFO”

Our prayers have been answered. A new Mariah Carey era has officially begun. Today (September 13), the living legend rolled out her new track “GTFO.” Written with assistance from the likes of Bibi Bourelly, her comeback single is a sassy breakup anthem. “You took my love for granted. You left me lost and disenchanted,” she breathily coos over a velvety production courtesy of Nineteen85. Instead of getting mad, the hitmaker gets even and kicks her partner out on the confident chorus. “I ain’t the type to play the martyr. How bout you get the fuck out.” Keeping her infamous 5-octave voice tightly under control, the end result is a little unexpected. But it feels like a logical follow-up to last year’s massively underrated “I Don’t.” True to her word, she delivered a track that feels at home on current radio while still carrying her signature stamp. And the empowering anthem has plenty of replay factor.

“GTFO” is expected to be the lead single to Mimi’s highly anticipated new album. In a recent interview with People magazine, she described the project as “current,” “lighthearted” and “fun.” All of the above qualify as brilliant adjectives to describe her much-needed comeback. The LP also signifies a creative rebirth of sorts. “This is me at this moment in my life being able to express myself as a writer and a singer. I’m just really in a good place.” If the star-studded cast of collaborators is anything to go by, she is going straight for the jugular this time around. The “#Beautiful” siren has been photographed in the studio with the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Bobby Ross Avila, Prince Charlez and No I.D.. Only time will tell if radio will get behind her latest anthem, but it looks like Mimi could kickstart the new era with a massive hit on her hands.
