Normani and Khalid’s “Love Lies” is proving to be one of the most enduring singles of 2018. The duo dropped their slinky collaboration back in February. It landed on the Love, Simon soundtrack alongside material from the likes of Jack Antonoff, Troye Sivan and . The pair dropped a sensual video, which has amassed nearly 75 million views on YouTube. They also took the stage at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards to deliver an exceptional performance. And the promo paid off. Over the last seven months, “Love Lies” has slowly but surely climbed the charts. It broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. But it recently passed yet another milestone. This week, it became the number one song on Top 40 radio.

After amassing approximately 19,107 spins between September 9 and 15, it ascended above Post Malone’s “Better Now” on Mediabase’s airplay chart. Previously Normani dominated Top 40 radio on Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home.” Khalid pulled off the feat alongside Logic and Alessia Cara on “1-800-273-8255.” However, this is the first time both have done so as the lead artist on a song. They also topped Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. “Love Lies” is currently sitting at the number 11 spot on the Hot 100, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it reenter the Top 10 in the coming weeks. Alongside strong radio support, it has been streamed more than 391 million times on Spotify alone.

It would be incredible to see the track soar up to the Top 5, and, at this point, anything can happen. In the meantime, both hitmakers are poised to hit it big with new singles. Normani hopped on a remix of Jessie Reyez’s “Body Count” with Kehlani. I’m holding out hope that the trio drop a video for the track in the near future, because it is bound to be incredibly iconic. And last week Khalid graced us with two new tracks on New Music Friday: his solo single “Better” and a 6LACK collab called “Seasons.” Of the pair, I’m expecting the former to soar up the charts.
