Summer may be ending, but Dinah Jane captures its essence with her debut solo single, “Bottled Up.” On it she reunites with Ty Dolla $ign. The pair previously linked up on Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home,” which rocketed into the Top 5 in 2016. And he brings a lot of the same energy to their latest outing. Over a buoyant production, the “He Like That” hitmaker gets a little flirty. “I don’t need no diamond rings. Baby, I got you,” she coos on the opening lines. “I’m a bad chick, I need a bad one with me,” she adds over sugary beats. However, on the chorus she and Marc E. Bassy need a little coaxing to open up about their feelings. “I’m drinking baby, cause I’m bottled up,” they admit.

Toss in a few of references to “Work From Home” and “Worth It,” and the end result is an infectious hit with plenty of potential. It is refreshing to hear the budding solo star happily reflect on her roots instead of dissing them for added “cool” factor. She and the other members of 5H have all managed the transition to their new careers with grace. And hopefully her move will result in just as much success. Dinah is the latest to make moves toward solo stardom. Camila Cabello was the first. After leaving the group, she topped the Billboard Hot 100 with “Havana.” Since then she has landed a Top 10 hit with “Never Be The Same” and is poised to return to the Top 40 with a romantic remix of Bazzi’s “Beautiful.”

Normani was the next, and she recently broke into the Top 10 on her Khalid duet, “Love Lies.” This week the track topped Top 40 radio, meaning that they could climb even higher in the coming weeks. With any luck, Dinah Jane will follow in their footsteps. Her lead single packages the energy of the group’s previous work, and it delivers a tightly-produced dose of pop. Based on the vibrant single cover, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an equally memorable video. While we wait to see what she has in store, give her debut single a spin below!
