Ella Mai Announces Self-Titled Debut LP Featuring “Boo’d Up” & “Trip”
Ella Mai is shaping up to be one of the breakout stars of 2018. The 23-year-old caught lightning in a bottle with the DJ Mustard-produced “Boo’d Up,” climbing all the way to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling triple platinum. They teamed up again on the slinky followup and it looks like “Trip” is going to be another huge hit. The loved-up slow jam is already sitting pretty at number 23 on the Hot 100 and should soar a lot higher with the arrival of a sexy video and surging radio play.
As expected, both hits will feature on the Brit’s self-titled debut LP (due October 12). Ella hasn’t released the tracklist yet, but it was executive-produced by DJ Mustard and is said to have a “throwback R&B” vibe. She has clearly worked out the winning formula for streaming-friendly slow jams, so expect more of the same. The much-touted newcomer has a lot to look forward to in the coming months with the arrival of her album as well as multiple nominations at the American Music Awards and a support slot on Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour.
