Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty had the biggest chart debut of 2018 — racking up 266,000 equivalent album units. Of those, 251,000 were traditional album sales. That edges her ahead of Cardi B, who reigned supreme for most of 2018 with Invasion Of Privacy. (That opus opened with 255,000 units back in April). It was also the biggest country debut of 2018. In fact, you have to go way back to 2015 for a bigger country debut. That honor goes to Luke Bryan’s Kill The Lights, which earned 345,000 units first week.

The celebrations don’t end there, however! Carrie also made history as the first female artist in history to take four country albums to the top of the Billboard 200. (Taylor Swift has five chart-toppers, but 1989 and Reputation are classified as pop albums). Given the bleak state of traditional album sales, these numbers are very impressive. Who knows? The 35-year-old might actually eke out a million-seller at a time when that feels impossible for a female artist if your name isn’t Adele, Beyoncé or Taylor.
