UPDATE: Maggie Lindemann unveiled the Beetle Juice-inspired video for “Human.” Check it out below!

With Halloween right around the corner, we are seeing an uptick in the spooky factor around pop music. Maggie Lindemann clearly got the memo based on her timely new single, “Human.” On it the 20-year-old opens up about feeling disconnected from other people. “I’ve got like 30 missed calls. Staying in another night, and I’ve been talking to the walls. Feel a little out of my mind,” she admits on the opening lines. “I wish, I wish I was human,” she later adds. The eerie anthem is a bit of a departure from the sunny beats of her breakout hit “Pretty Girl,” but it packs just as much of a punch. Although the darker branding feels very appropriate for the season, Maggie revealed that the song’s inspiration is grounded firmly in reality.

“The song is about literally not feeling human. Doing too many drugs or drinking too much to take a feeling away turning you into someone who’s not yourself, not going out because you’ve secluded yourself from the world,” the “Obsessed” siren explained in a press release. “I think everyone can take away a different feeling from the song but for me it was always about having anxiety.” Opening up about her personal struggles with anxiety, she shared some encouraging words for anyone who can relate. “The things we struggle with can make us feel less human sometimes and I want people to know that I’m there with them and I feel you, but we’ll be okay.” Press play on the track below!
