RuPaul's 'American' LP
Pop/drag icon RuPaul gets political on his new album, makes several points.

As any discerning fan of festive fare will tell you, RuPaul’s 1997 opus Ho Ho Ho is one of the best Christmas albums of all time. (“All Alone On Christmas” will forever be that song). The drag sensation, pop icon and TV superstar added to his canon of Yuletide bops in 2015 with the arrival of Slay Belles and now stakes his claim as the One True Queen of Christmas with a third offering. And, as expected, Christmas Party is a blast from the glorious opening number to the final, hilarious track.

This is one of those albums that you can happily play from beginning to end, but there are a couple of immediate standouts. “Hey Sis, It’s Christmas” is every bit as fierce and fabulous as the title suggests (Hallmark needs to print these lyrics on cards), while “Christmas Queen” is the enduring diva’s slinkiest hip-hop moment since the legendary “Peanut Butter.” If pushed for a favorite, I would probably have to go with the Stock Aitken Waterman-channeling “My Favorite Holiday.” Try to listen to this song without a smile on your face!

Actually, the same applies to the title track. With Ru playing party leader and a glorious Hi-NRG chorus, it’s destined to become a cult classic. If you’re looking to make your guests gag this holiday, Christmas Party is the album for you. Stream it below or download a copy from iTunes here.
