Steve Aoki has a serious hit on his hands with “Waste It On Me.” The super-producer partnered with K-Pop kings BTS on the track, which landed on his latest LP, Neon Future III. Since premiering last month, the anthem has amassed more than 38 million streams on Spotify. Meanwhile, the pastel-hued lyric video was viewed more than 26 million times. It was enough to propel the cut onto the Billboard Hot 100. And today (November 19), the single is getting another push with the unveiling of an official video. Directed by Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn, it is a serious win for representation. Featuring an all Asian-American cast, it brings the anthem to life in a fun and unexpected way.

In it, Ken Jeong (Crazy Rich Asians and The Hangover) plays the role of a server in a club. While on the job, he runs into his celebrity crush, Devon Aoki (Sin City 2), who is on a date with Ross Butler (13 Reasons Why). What follows is an epic lip-sync battle as Ken and Ross face off for Devon’s heart. Meanwhile Steve posts up at the DJ booth. The end result is cute and undeniably fun. The only thing I’m missing is an intricately choreographed routine from BTS. The septet brings something fierce for visuals, and I was looking forward to seeing what they had in store. Hopefully they’re saving that for a performance in the near future. Steve opened up about the project and what the collaboration meant in a press release.

“When I found out that ‘Waste It On Me’ was the number one song in the world on Apple Music I realized that this track represented more than just me and BTS,” he explained. “It’s bigger than music, it represents a Korean band and one Asian American DJ that can show other Asians they are also apart of the global commercial musical landscape.” He went on to reflect on why the visual was so important. “I feel so deeply about the Asian footprint in music culture that I wanted the music video to have an entirely Asian cast and director. The video tells the story of ‘Waste It On Me’ in an incredibly funny, witty, and clever manner. I want to give a big shoutout to all the incredible actors and people who made this video happen.”
