Avril Lavigne’s comeback remains one of the brightest highlights of 2018, and it just got even better. The 34-year-old went through something of a creative rebirth with September’s “Head Above Water.” The power ballad – inspired by her lengthy battle with Lyme Disease – serves as the title track and lead single to her forthcoming album. Last week the pop/rock icon unveiled the project’s cover and tracklist. Today (December 12), she provides a second taste of the LP with the release of her new single, “Tell Me It’s Over.” The hitmaker opened up about the track in a press release. “’Tell Me It’s Over’ is an anthem about being strong, finally putting your foot down and closing the door on a relationship that you know is wrong after time and time again of falling for their games,” she explained.

She added that it was inspired by the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Why? “They represent women who stand up for women and aren’t going to put up with a man’s bullshit anymore.” Makes sense to me. That inspiration is evident on the single, which features a vaguely retro production. “Tell me it’s over if it’s really over,” she urges. “Cause every time you come over it doesn’t feel like it’s over no more.” Serving strong vocals and a relatable concept, it sounds like a serious hit. Avril commemorated the release with a timely video. In it, the “Smile” singer and her beau go from lovingly exchanging Christmas gifts to the end of their relationship.

That’s not all though. She also confirmed the February 15 release date of Head Above Water. The album is available for pre-order today. Check out the video below and pre-order Avril’s album here!
