Festive! Allie X Gets In The Holiday Spirit With “Last Xmas”

Christmas is coming early for fans of Allie X. With the holidays looming closer by the day, many of our favs are getting in the spirit by unleashing festive material. This year we’ve already gotten original anthems from the likes of Katy Perry, Wrabel and Tiffany Young. Meanwhile, everyone from Meghan Trainor to Ally Brooke has put a spin on beloved classics. Today (December 14), the Canadian joins the latter camp with a predictably sublime version of Wham!’s “Last Xmas.” As she’s proven time and time again, no one does pop quite like Allie. With her distinctive voice and unexpected productions, she brings something special to every song. And it turns out that this also applies to her cover material.

Considering her tendency toward synth pop, this feels like the perfect Christmas song for Allie to tackle. Although she stays relatively true to the original, the “Focus” hitmaker still manages to make it her own with some glorious runs and an updated production. And that saxophone is a stroke of utter genius. Of course, I expect nothing less than pop perfection from the 33-year-old. That’s because she has yet to disappoint. This year she added another collection of must-hear bops to her discography with the unveiling of Super Sunset. The extravagant EP documented her LA experience and hopefully brings her one step closer to the acclaim she deserves. Check out her latest release for more evidence of what she is capable of.
