Opening Night! Lady Gaga Kicks Off Her ‘Enigma’ Vegas Residency

Lady Gaga officially launched her first Las Vegas residency, and Sin City will never be the same. Last night (December 28), the 32-year-old graced Park MGM’s Park Theater with the premiere performance of Enigma. And she marked the occasion with an expansive, experimental and bop-filled set. It has been just over a year since Mother Monster originally announced plans for the show. Anticipation has been steadily rising since then. But it recently reached a fever pitch as the Golden Globes-nominee started sharing teasers on social media. Unsurprisingly, the final effort was well worth the wait.

Kicking off the evening by floating down from the ceiling, Gaga proceeded to work her way through all of her biggest hits and several fan favorites. She started with her breakout anthem – “Just Dance.” From there she kept things equally nostalgic with early cuts including “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Dance In The Dark.” Other tracks that got plenty of love include the likes of “Paparazzi,” “The Edge Of Glory,” and “Telephone.” Debuting a new pastel-blue weave, Gaga wore several glamorous costumes. She also introduced a variety of props. Most notable amongst those is an oversized machine she mounts while performing “Sheiße.”

Interestingly, her most recent LP – 2016’s Joanne – is one of the least represented on the setlist. We received a beautiful rendition of “Million Reasons” at the piano, but that’s about it. After that, she traveled back in time to revisit “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way.” In another surprise twist, Gaga saved her latest hit for last. Returning to the stage, she showed plenty of love to “Shallow.” It’s a smart move since the A Star Is Born soundtrack contribution made the short list to compete for Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars. The placement also brings the show full circle, presenting a full glimpse at her impressive career.

Featuring elaborate staging and plenty of quality content, Enigma is shaping up to be a must-see event. It looks like Gaga will be the latest icon to conquer the Vegas strip. And it isn’t all she has up her (very fashionable) sleeves. One new show would be enough for most people. However, Mother Monster has never been content with maintaining the status quo. Instead, the Cheek To Cheek chanteuse will launch a second show in the new year. This one will highlight an entirely different side of her musicality. Titled Jazz & Piano, it features “stripped-down versions of her hits as well as music from the Great American Songbook.”
