The Drop: Gesaffelstein & Bunt
Your guide to New Music Friday featuring gems from Gesaffelstein, The Weeknd & Bunt.

The Weeknd makes a welcome return to the music scene via a collaboration with French producer, Gesaffelstein. “Lost In The Fire,” a slinky R&B-electronica hybrid, arrived on Friday and is already generating controversy. (LGBTQ groups have taken issue with a particularly unsavory lyric). That hasn’t stopped the sex-fueled bop from being the most-added song on pop radio or soaring up iTunes. The arrival of a sleek, slightly nightmarish video will only boost its popularity.

Featuring highly stylized sets and a fascination with European art, Gesaffelstein’s “Lost In The Fire” falls somewhere between Beyoncé’s “APESHIT” and “Mine” videos. It is distinguished by a decidedly dark approach, which includes a person being tormented by a sleep paralysis demon and copious amounts of black goo. Given the quality of the visual and the pitch-perfect production, it would be advisable for the collaborators to edit the offending line and make amends before being cancelled. Watch up top.
