Cassadee Pope weathers heartbreak on her new single “If My Heart Had A Heart.” Out today (January 23), the earnest track finds the 29-year-old striving to move on from the past with little luck. She shared some insight into that struggle in a caption on Instagram. “For the #stages when your heart is cruel and relentlessly reminds you of the things you want to forget.” The song itself is even more evocative, featuring her soaring voice over a lush instrumentation. “If my heart had a heart, it would go on and leave me alone,” she coos. “It’d stop having a mind of its own, let me forget you and let me let go.”

“If My Heart Had A Heart” is the third song we’ve heard off her forthcoming album, Stages. Out February 1, it is shaping up to be her most personal to date. The hitmaker opened up about the recording process in a press release. “I really don’t know how I would have moved on with my life without this album,” she explained. “In the past, I made records I thought everyone could relate to. This time, I didn’t think about that at all. I wanted to tell a story of my truths and perspective on how I approached life in hopes that the messages reach someone who may need help in their own stumble.”

She’ll commemorate the release with a string of live performances. That includes a February 6 stop on The TODAY Show and a set at the Grand Ole Opry House February 9. While we wait to listen to Stages in full, press play on the single (and check out the emotional lyric video) below!
