Love Hurts: Astrid S Struggles With A Broken Heart On “Someone New”

Breakups suck. And the worst part about them is watching your ex move on while you’re struggling to do the same. If you have any doubts, just ask Astrid S. The Norwegian pop princess opens up about that particular challenge on her new single “Someone New.” Out today (February 1), the relatable anthem features writing credits from the likes of Charli XCX and Noonie Bao and feels like it could be massive. “Head against the wall. I’ve been here before. I can’t let you go,” she laments. “It’s hard, but it’s true. I can’t stop myself from thinking ’bout you.” But there’s a kicker: she’s already been replaced. “You’re thinking ’bout someone new.”

Following the excellence of “Emotion” and “Closer,” “Someone New” only has me more excited for her highly anticipated debut album. The 22-year-old opened up about the track in an interview with PopJustice. In particular, she shared some insight into how it all came together. “It was actually the first song I made by emailing,” she explained. “I’d written with Noonie before, and I’d worked with the producers [Jack & Coke] before, but Charli XCX was part of writing and I’d never met her yet. So we were just emailing about it.” Considering the track record of everyone involved, it is hardly surprising how successful they were. Hopefully Astrid has a video and some promotional performances in the works. With the right push, this could easily be the track to propel her onto the Billboard Hot 100.
