The Norwegian pop star drops a cool and quirky video for rising hit 'Baby.'

Norway’s Anna Of The North became an instant blog darling when “The Dreamer” went viral in 2015. Since then, Anna Lotterud has carved out a niche as one of pop’s most original voices with a string of eclectic collaborations (G-Eazy, Honne and Tyler, The Creator) and a perfect debut LP. The latter, 2017’s exquisite Lovers, is still winning over new fans thanks to the title track being used in Netflix original, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

The 27-year-old makes a welcome return to the music scene today (February 6) with a new single called “Leaning On Myself.” And it represents a distinct sonic shift. The soft electronica of her debut gives way to something more rhythmic and propulsive. “I remember flying home from the States where we wrote it and I started crying,” Anna says of her latest gem. “I kind of realized I’d written the soundtrack of my life one year ago. There was a point in where I went through a lot of shit and I wasn’t feeling very well.”

“I had one big breakdown where I called my mom and just knew I had to change my ways,” she confides. “I had to cut some people out of my life, people I loved but I knew weren’t really good for me. It was tough. But I’m good now. Every time I listen to this song it takes me back to that moment. It’s fucking sad but also powerful. I’m very grateful for where I am today. In the end you only have yourself, you know, and I guess that’s ok.” While the subject matter is grimly relatable, the video veers into the surreal.
