Avril Lavigne Links Up With Nicki Minaj On “Dumb Blonde,” Out Tomorrow
Update: Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj hopped online to confirm that “Dumb Blonde” was dropping tomorrow (February 12). Check out the tweets below!
It is shaping up to be a big week for Avril Lavigne. Friday (February 15), she drops her first album since 2013 – Head Above Water. The 34-year-old launched her new era last year with the soaring title track. The anthem and her follow-up single “Tell Me It’s Over” ensured that the LP was one of our most-anticipated for 2019. And it is exciting to learn that she has a slew of promotional appearances planned to commemorate the release. That includes a stop on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday and one on Good Morning America Friday. We don’t know what she’ll be performing yet. However, it looks like she may be using those appearances to debut a new single: the Nicki Minaj-assisted “Dumb Blonde.”
Rumors started circulating that Nicki hopped on a verse on the track last week. Although Avril hasn’t confirmed the duet, iTunes has it listed on the official tracklist. Now, speculation is picking up steam that it will be released as a single. Why is that? It appears an alleged cover leaked overnight. The sassy cover plays up a handful of “dumb blonde” stereotypes and makes it very clear that a bop is on the way. A brief snippet of the track also appeared on the “Smile” hitmaker’s Instagram account last week. “I ain’t no dumb blonde. I ain’t no stupid Barbie Doll,” Avril chants over a hot production. “I’ve got my game on. Now watch me, watch me, watch me prove you wrong.”
If everything pans out, this may be a chart-dominating hit the era truly deserves. Check out the alleged cover and listen to the snippet below!

I used to drive to my job @ Red Lobster playing this woman’s album for an hour straight everyday for months. Crying to “I’m with you”, blasting “complicated” “things I’ll never say” “nobody’s fool” “sk8er boi”. 😩 omg. #DumbBlonde tmrw. This woman is so unbelievably talented 💖 https://t.co/7h75jZHIW2

The concept and idea for #DumbBlonde came to me through a situation I experienced and I brought it to @BonnieMcKee and #MitchAllan, who helped me bring it to life. I had this fucking loser in my life who was threatened by my strength, confidence and independence as a woman. I was belittled and made to feel bad for who I was: A leader, someone with a vision and opinions, someone who has strength, desire, passion and goals. Never let anyone put you down for being who you are. Stand up. Fight. Be you. Love. Be genuine. Kind. Find yourself and own it. Fuck stereotypes. If you’re a strong person and your partner can’t handle you, go find someone who has enough self-confidence and can support you and lift you up and inspire you in your life. As an equal. A friend. Not someone who needs to take you down to make themselves feel better because of their low self-esteem. Yes, women should build each other up, but so should men and women.
