Album Review: Rita Ora's 'Phoenix'
The pop star's long-delayed sophomore LP was well and truly worth the wait.

Rita Ora’s “Let You Love Me” was a massive international hit in 2018, cracking the top 10 in most major markets apart from the US. Which is frustrating because pop music is rarely this raw, honest and relatable. (It tackles commitment and intimacy issues from a uniquely female perspective). With any luck, the Brit’s banger will find a whole new audience thanks to a gorgeous, stripped-back live performance for Vevo. It showcases both her underrated vocals and the song’s emotional depth.

Given that “Let You Love Me” has almost run its course, it will be interesting to see what Rita releases as the next single from Phoenix. “Only Want You” is the obvious choice (it was singled out in reviews and became an instant fan favorite), but I wouldn’t be mad if she kept that up her sleeve and went with something less emo — like “New Look” or “Hell Of A Life.” While we wait for the 28-year-old to make her next move, watch the live version of “Let You Love Me” up top and then revisit the video below.
