Grace VanderWaal has come a long way since winning America’s Got Talent in 2016. The 15-year-old kicked off her budding music career with a Top 10-charting EP. She followed that up with her debut LP the following year. Since then she’s been keeping busy and hopping from talent to talent. Last year she toured North America on Imagine Dragons’ Evolve World Tour. She also signed on for a lead role in Disney’s Stargirl, which signifies her acting debut. And things are about to get even more exciting. Friday (February 15), she announced plans to drop a single called “Stray.” Out February 22, it will be her first new release since “Clearly” in early 2018.

The hitmaker opened up about the forthcoming song and reflected on the last year in a heartfelt letter she shared with some of her closest fans. In it, she attributed touring and filming to changing her “greatly.” However, she admitted to feeling a little “empty” after her responsibilities were finished. “I was quickly thrown into a hungry awareness of the fact that every second I live, passes just as quickly as it came. Every memory, breath, step is only once,” she wrote. The “Moonlight” singer explained that getting back into a routine at school helped, but she still missed music. “I made friends, more memories, and started to remember me.” And writing gave her the last step she need. It also led to the creation of her new single.

“‘Stray’ is close to me, not just because it’s the restart of my continuing path, but because it explains the exhilarating fear and freedom of growing up.” It sounds like Grace has another relatable hit on her hands. Check out the single cover and read her letter in full below!
