Kacey Musgraves Teams Up With Judah & The Lion On “Pictures”

Kacey Musgraves is riding a wave of forward moment after winning big at the Grammys earlier this month. The Album Of The Year-recipient experienced a resurgence on the charts with Golden Hour returning to the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Her hopeful ballad “Rainbow” also made its debut on the Hot 100 following a performance at the show. But don’t let it be said that the 30-year-old is resting on her laurels. Today (February 20), she links up with Nashville-based hitmakers Judah & The Lion on a new song called “pictures.” The single, a heartbreaking ode to the end of a relationship, will land on the trio’s forthcoming album Pep Talks.

Singer Judah Akers offered some insight into how it came together in a press release. “I had a really deep moment with my mom when she called me and broke down bawling about how hard it was to move from our family house,” he said. “I wrote the song from her perspective and it came in a flood, in five minutes, right after the call. I needed to write it because I was heartsick.” Over a quiet production, he and Kacey trade of vocal duties. “You were mine, always. And now you’re gone. Look what we’ve become: just another sad song of a love gone wrong. And I hate that I’m taking our pictures off the wall,” they both lament on the chorus.

Relatable and beautifully performed, the evocative release has no shortage of crossover appeal. With any luck, it will make an appearance on the charts in the coming weeks. It also has me very excited to hear the rest of Pep Talks when it drops May 3. Give the single a listen and check out the lyric video below!
