John Mayer's 'New Light' Video
The crooner's 'New Light' video is a lo-fi delight bursting with bad fashion and worse effects.

Let the John Mayer revival continue! The singer/songwriter enjoyed a staggering return to form on 2018’s “New Light” (his best single in a decade) and now backs it up with an insightful tune about outrage fatigue. “I guess I just feel like nobody’s honest, nobody’s true,” he sings over a simple guitar arrangement. “Everyone’s lying to make it on through, I guess I just feel like I’m the same way too.” John then free-falls into despair. “I guess I just feel like good things are gone and the weight of my worries is too much to take on.”

However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. John is wise enough to realize that although his well of optimism might have run dry, it will replenish in time. “But I know that I’m open and I know that I’m free and I’ll always let hope in wherever I’ll be,” the 41-year-old reassures us. “And if I go blind I’ll still find my way, I guess I just felt like giving up today.” In addition to capturing our collective frustration with the world, John also announced summer tour dates.
