Tyla Yaweh Unleashes Debut Project ‘Heart Full Of Rage’

Breakout artist Tyla Yaweh caught my attention late last year with “She Bad,” a Michael Jackson-referencing party anthem with amazing lyrics like “moonwalk straight to me tonight.” The LA-based newcomer unleashed his debut project on Friday (February 22) and Heart Full of Rage is a genre-denying collection of hip-hop, R&B and pop. The fact that it still sounds like a cohesive body of work (major themes include drugs and women) is an impressive achievement. Particularly when every second song sounds like a hit.

Highlights depend on your taste in music. I lean towards pop, so tracks like the ruthlessly catchy “Chiquita” and the surprisingly sweet “They Ain’t You” were instant favorites. The 10-song set also excels at druggy anthems. “Who Shot Johnny?” recounts the fate of a dealer, while “Novacane” is a blissfully drowsy ode to excess. “Adderall” is (suitably) more uptempo and light-hearted. Tyla is currently on tour with Post Malone. He will follow that up with performances at Bonnaroo, Firefly and Lollapalooza. Stream Heart Full Of Rage below.
