K-Pop Kings Monsta X heat up this week’s New Music Friday with a fresh take on their Steve Aoki collaboration “Play It Cool.” The septet linked up with the super-producer for a Korean version of the infectious banger, which landed on last month’s Take.2 We Are Here. Since dropping, the original has amassed an impressive 1.25 million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, the album peaked within the Top 5 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. Out today (March 22), the English-language take on the track is likely to perform just as well. “Baby I like the way that you keep moving ’round the place. And when you dancing in my face, oh I just play it cool,” the group sings over supersized beats on the chorus. With any luck, this means an accompanying video is on the way.

If so, that all but guarantees them another mega-viral hit. Steve gushed about the opportunity to work with the iconic hitmakers in a press release. “Monsta X is one of those powerhouse groups that sets the bar very high,” he explained. “Their voices stay with you long after the song is over, and on this track they sang so profoundly that all we had to do was focus on the story we were telling.” Meanwhile, the “Alligator” stars shared an equally bright message of their own. “It was such an honor to work with Steve Aoki. He is truly an amazing artist and producer,” they said. “We love how ‘Play It Cool’ turned out at the end so much that we included it in our recent album – Take 2 ‘We Are Here’!”

They added that the English version was a way of thanking their fans for endless support. “This collab is a gift from us to our ‘monbebe,’ for always taking care of us and keeping it cool. Thank you.” Speaking of gifts, Monsta X recently announced a 19-date world tour including six US dates. They’ll also make history as the first K-Pop group to perform at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this September.
