UPDATE: Bazzi sweetened New Music Friday with his second new single of the week. Listen to his latest bop “Paradise” and revisit Monday’s “Caught In The Fire” below.

Bazzi reacts to the state of the world on his evocative new single “Caught In The Fire.” Out today (April 1), the release follows his Camila Cabello-assisted “Beautiful” remix last year. And it is a stark departure from the woozy beat and loved-up lyricism of the Top 40 hit. Instead, the rising star airs his grievances over a cutting production. “The world on fire. Let’s celebrate. Let’s have a toast while we sit, and we watch the whole world go up in flames” he declares with evident frustration. However, it isn’t all doom and gloom. Instead of accepting where we are at, he calls for change after a sonic switch-up.

“We’ve been caught in the fire. We’ve lost our desire, we’re beaten and blue,” he admits. “I pray we save us from ourselves cause nobody else can do that for you.” As it turns out, Bazzi has an idea about who will be able to help change the world for the better – his generation. “My generation is the truth, yeah. I believe in me and you, yeah. Bitch, the future is the youth.” The 21-year-old opened up about the release in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “Yeah, ‘Caught in the Fire’ was kind of my exhale,” he explained.

“I like to look at it like that over the last year of everything that’s been going on. The song kind of shows two sides of me as an artist and also as a human and a person. The verses have this almost anger, this frustration, and then that hook comes in and it’s the vulnerable side of me that’s purely hurting. I think I’m just exercising myself, man, learning new things about myself, learning new things that I can do and new things that I enjoy hearing.” And it looks like more music is on the way. Although he kept tightlipped on the specifics, Bazzi said he’d been in the studio for the last five months.

We’ll have to see when the next release drops. In the meantime, press play on “Caught In The Fire” below!
