The music world is still reeling nearly one year after the sudden death of Swedish DJ Avicii. The hitmaker (real name Tim Bergling) responsible for crafting anthems including 2013’s “Wake Me Up,” passed away April 20, 2018. At the time, he was in the midst of recording a new album. And today (April 5) we learned that the music from those sessions will see the light of day. In a statement shared by his family and team, they revealed plans to honor his legacy by releasing the collection in the coming months. Called TIM, the LP is expected to arrive June 6. But we won’t have to wait that long to hear a first taste. Lead single “SOS” is due to drop next Wednesday (April 10).

The team opened up about the decision in a press release and documentary-style video. “When Tim Bergling passed away on April 20, 2018, he was close to completing a new album. He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music,” they explained in the release. “Since Tim’s passing, the family decided not to keep the music locked away – instead they wanted to share it with his fans all around the world.” Avicii’s net proceeds from sales of the album will be donated to the Tim Bergling Foundation. The non-profit centers around mental health issues and suicide prevention.

The accompanying video provides even more details. Avicii’s father, Klas Bergling, opens with a poignant reflection on his son’s musical beginnings. Meanwhile, Per Sundin, president of Universal Music Nordic Region, offers more insight into their goals with the release. “We tried to keep it as close with Tim would have love. Or with Tim would have done,” he explained. “We’re not trying to create the biggest hits ever made. We’re trying to be as close to what Tim would have wanted.” Others involved in the video include writers and producers Carl Falk, Vargas & Lagola, Albin Nedler and Kristoffer Fogelmark.
