After the non-stop madness of Coachella, the Empire Polo Club plays host to a very different kind of music fan this weekend. The country crowd descended upon Indio, California on Friday (April 26) — complete with cowboy boots, Daisy Dukes and American flags — to soak up the honky tonk tunes and good vibes of Stagecoach. Unlike Coachella, there’s no mad rush between endless tents and stages around the ground. Headliners play the Mane Stage (get it?), while niche acts strut their stuff in the Palomino tent.

On Day 1, newcomers Devin Dawson and Russell Dickerson warmed up early birds with impressive sets. Next up was American Idol alum Scotty McCreery, who revved the crowd up with a selection of big hits and sparked a massive sing-along with “Five More Minutes.” He was followed by crossover star Kane Brown. The 25-year-old delivered impressive projections, killer covers and an edge that proves country is indeed evolving. The night came to a climax when Cole Swindell and Luke Bryan took to the stage.
