Pop Perfection: Carly Rae Jepsen Unveils “Too Much”

Carly Rae Jepsen’s Dedicated is shaping up to be one of 2019’s standout releases. The album arrives next Friday (May 17), and every song we’ve heard so far has been straight fire. There’s the (cruelly slept on) lead single “Party For One,” dual releases “No Drug Like Me” and “Now That I Found You” and the disco-tinged “Julien.” Each song seems better than the last, and that trend continues today with the release of “Too Much.” The 33-year-old’s latest buzz track is another frothy anthem. “Am I bad for you? Cause I live for the fire and the rain and the drama, too,” she asks on the opening lines.

Her questioning leads to a warning of sorts on the lush chorus. “I’ll do anything to get to the rush,” she coos over production courtesy of John Hill and Jordan Palmer. “So be careful if you’re wanting this touch. Cause if I love you, then I love you too much.” Earnest and sprawling, the shimmery bop is yet more evidence that CRJ’s new album is going to be a masterpiece. At the rate things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is on par with her beloved E·MO·TION. Hopefully it gets the respect it will truly deserve. While we wait to hear the rest of the collection, press play on “Too Much” below.
