LDR Teases Sublime Cover
Lana Del Rey is rolling out a cover of Sublime's 'Doin' Time' for a new documentary.

Lana Del Rey’s cover of Sublime’s 1996 hit “Doin’ Time” will arrive on Friday (May 17). A snippet of the “Venice Bitch” singer’s version can be heard in a trailer for an upcoming documentary about the iconic California band. It also looks like Gwen Stefani is involved in the project given her cameo in the preview. As expected, Lana puts her own dreamy spin on the song, incorporating overt jazz elements in a nod to George Gershwin’s original. (Sublime’s “Doin’ Time” is a loose remake of “Summertime”).

In addition to paying tribute to Cali ska pioneers, the 33-year-old is putting the finishing touches on her much-anticipated Norman Fucking Rockwell LP. While we’re still waiting for a release date, Lana has already shared three songs from the album: the aforementioned “Venice Bitch,” “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman like Me to Have – but I Have It.” Time will tell if “Doin Time” is added to the album or if it’s a stand-alone single. See her announcement and watch the documentary trailer below.
