Trixie Mattel breaks new musical ground with the unveiling of her heartfelt anthem “Yellow Cloud.” The RuPaul’s Drag Race alum introduced us to her folksy stylings on 2017 and 2018’s Two Birds and One Stone albums. But her latest release moves in a slightly different direction. Out today (May 17), it combines elements of surf rock, rockabilly and alternative 90s rock and transforms the final result into something exceedingly catchy. It doesn’t hurt that the single boasts some very loved-up and feel-good lyrics about living happily ever after with her boyfriend.

“I can see the picket fences. I can see you mow the lawn. Got no fear and no pretenses. We got nothing but our sunglasses on,” she dreamily sings. Trixie offered some insight into the single (which she wrote during a soundcheck last year) in an interview with Rolling Stone. She also opened up about what inspired her sonic shift. “My love for Sixties country music ushered me right into this new plugged-in radio sound,” she explained. “Listening to a lot of Fountains Of Wayne and Apples In Stereo. Collecting mod Barbie dolls and watching Brady Brunch reruns!”

And that’s not all. Iggy Azalea’s “Started” co-star shows out in the official video. Directed by Brad Hammer and featuring cameos from fellow RDPR alums Tammie Brown and Thorgy Thor and comedienne Deven Green, it is a vibrant and unforgettable saga. Give the single a listen and check out the video below.
