Nasty Cherry Debuts With 'Win'
Charli XCX's alt-pop girl group Nasty Cherry debuts with a banger called 'Win.'

Signed to Charli XCX’s Vroom Vroom Recordings, Nasty Cherry casually dropped one of the best singles of 2019 with “Win” — a lo-fi pop gem that falls somewhere between Joan Jett and The Cure. The girl band now returns with “What Do You Like In Me?” and it’s every bit as good as their debut. “Self-deception illuminates my face, I’m subject to ridicule,” frontwoman Gabbriette Bechtel sings in the opening verse over hazy production courtesy of Planet 1999. “Delight in exposure every time but now, I’m drifting away.”

That leads us to the woozy chorus. “What do you like in me? I wanna see what you see.” It evokes another time and place, and the video does a good job of capturing that retro quality. “The song is personal to all of us,” Gabbriettte, who co-directed the clip with Indiana Piorek, explains. “Indiana and I wanted to create a world that felt familiar and timeless and let the song speak for itself. We used all of our own clothes and ‘props’ from our homes and friends to help out… it was a wonderful collaboration that I’m so happy was born.” Watch below.
