The Swedish pop star concludes her 'Lady Wood' saga with a 'Blue Lips' mini-movie.

And she’s back! Tove Lo kicks off the Sunshine Kitty era with a feisty bop called “Glad He’s Gone.” Produced by The Struts and Shellback, the Swedish pop star’s new single is the musical equivalent of a pep-talk. “I got a girlfriend, she’s got a boyfriend,” she explains in the opening verse. “She calls me crying every day ’cause they got problems.” It all goes south by the chorus, and Tove is there to say, “I told you so” — in the nicest possible way. “Baby, no tears for that sucker… you’re better off, I’m glad that he’s gone.”

“It’s the obligatory pep-talk you give your girlfriend when she’s going through a breakup,” the hitmaker explains. “You’re reminding her she’s your partner-in-crime and showing unconditional support.” There’s another layer to the song, however. “It makes fun of the demands of being a good girlfriend and the dirty stuff you do just to make him confident,” Tove continues. “There’s a message to it. I’m telling a real story that I think girls need to hear… it’s about all the fun you can have after heartbreak.”

As for her new album title? “[It’s] a play on pussy power, but it’s a happy, positive way of seeing it,” the 31-year-old reveals. “This cartoon cat [featured on the artwork] is an extension of me and part of the new music. She’s super cute, but she does stupid shit like getting in fights and getting fucked up. It’s how I feel the album sounds.” On the strength of the extraordinarily catchy “Glad He’s Gone,” Sunshine Kitty could be Tove’s best album yet. Listen to the summer smash-in-waiting below.
