This week’s New Music Friday is all about the ladies. It’s been a jam-packed week with Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX, Tove Lo, Camila Cabello, Rita Ora and more unveiling new bops and bangers. And impressively, each song really stands out as a solid gem. That holds up for King Princess as well. Today (May 31), the 20-year-old returns with the release of her single “Cheap Queen.” And it could very easily notch the rising star another “1950”-sized hit. “I’ve been alright. I’ve just been doing the same shit I’ve always liked,” she sings on the opening lines.

Everything builds up to the chorus, which is all but guaranteed to worm its way into your mind and stay for a while. “I can be good sometimes. I’m a cheap queen,” she croons. As it evolves, Mikaela Straus (her real name), keeps building on that. “I can be what you like. And I can be bad sometimes. I’m a real queen, I can make grown men cry.” And this is just a taste of what is to come. The New York native is gearing up to drop her debut album through Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records and Columbia Records later this year. Based on the quality of “Cheap Queen” and last year’s Make My Bed EP, the album should be on everyone’s radar.
