James Maslow is getting ready to take the next step in his career. Earlier this year he launched a new era, which promises to be his most vulnerable to date, with “Love U Sober.” The earnest anthem depicts the strength of his feelings over an addictive production courtesy of Eugene Ugorski. And the accompanying video is just as compelling. Out yesterday (June 5), it is a cinematic blockbuster that brings the lyrics to life and boasts some dazzling scenes. Directed by Michael B. Chait (who is also working with James on a forthcoming WWII-period film called Wolf Hound), the project features rain, fire and so much more.

In a press release, James opened up about the video and his hosting duties on the CW’s forthcoming talent show The Big Stage. The latter premieres Friday (June 7). “This is a big week for me. Dropping my first big music video as a solo artist, celebrating the premiere of a new series on a major network – all while on set filming a new movie here in Philadelphia,” he gushed. “I never could decide which I prefer more, the camera or the microphone, and I hope to never have to choose. Grateful to all the fans who continue to support all my worlds. Expect a lot more of it all.” Watch him in action in the visual below.
