“Hold The Line” Is A Standout On Avicii’s Posthumous Album ‘TIM’

As expected, Avicii’s posthumous album TIM houses some of the visionary artist’s most ambitious work. The LP was preceded by emotionally riveting singles “SOS” and “Tough Love.” Both are testaments to his impressive musical dexterity. And they’re in good company on the tracklist. Out today (June 7), the rest of the 12-song collection is just as compelling. Featuring contributions with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Imagine Dragons, Aloe Blacc and more, each offering is a layered gem deserving of closer inspection. However, one of the clear standouts is a collaboration with A R I Z O N A called “Hold The Line.”

Built around a rousing production, it features a poignant message. “We don’t get to die young. Trouble keeping our head sometimes. We just have to push on, we don’t get to give up this life. All the breath in your lungs is stronger than the tears in your eyes. It’s do or die. But we’re alive. And while we’re here, hold the line.” Lead single Zachary Charles opened up about the song in a press release. “This song means a lot to us,” he explained. “And we hope it will carry a positive message to anyone out there who is struggling with the hardships of daily life. You’re not alone.” He also reflected on the chance to be involved with TIM.

“We didn’t learn until after Avicii’s passing that this song had made its way into Tim’s hands and really resonated with him. We felt honored to have the opportunity to take it the last few steps to the finish line.” A R I Z O N A also unveiled an acoustic version of the song, dedicated to Avicii. The stripped back arrangement draws the attention even more closely to the evocative lyrics and makes for a serious tearjerker. Check out that version here.
