Colbie Caillat Joins Country Group Gone West, Drops New Single “What Could’ve Been”

UPDATE: Gone West unveiled a video for “What Could’ve Been.” Directed by Patrick Tracy and filmed filmed in Franklin, Tennessee, it brings the emotional anthem to life. “It’s a good reminder to show love openly before it’s too late, especially in the hardest moments,” the group urged in a press release. Colbie Caillat is breaking new musical ground. Last year the “Bubbly” siren joined forces with her fiancé Justin Young and frequent collaborators Jason Reeves and Nelly Joy to form a country group. Branding themselves Gone West, they brought their talents together and dreamed up a very compelling sound. That genre-bending but distinctly twangy aesthetic was perfectly displayed on last year’s Tides EP. And they struck gold once again with their new single “What Could’ve Been.” Out today (June 7), the release wistfully looks back on a failed relationship.

“Trying to move along, but I keep coming back again to what could’ve been,” they sing. Colbie opened up about the song in an interview with People. “It’s just about two people that maybe let their relationship fall apart and then they think back years later on what they could have done differently and maybe they would still have been together. So it’s kind of an open-ended mystery,” she explained. She also revealed how easily the track came together. “This one, instantly, we just sang it in the room, the four of us together singing the chorus, and it kind of gave us chills and it really just fell into place easily.”

With any luck, “What Could’ve Been” will take off once it impacts radio July 15. In the meantime, give the heartfelt anthem a listen below.
