Anna Of The North Turns The Tables On “Thank Me Later”
Anna Of The North’s debut album, Lovers, was one of the sleeper hits of 2018. Thanks in part to the title track featuring prominently on Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The Norwegian pop star began teasing the followup earlier this year with the pristine pop “Leaning On Myself” and “Used To Be.” She rolls out the album’s third cut today (April 12) and it’s an instantly catchy, tables-turning bop about gender roles. “It’s the first song I wrote towards this next record,” Anna explains.
“There are so many songs where girls get objectified and controlled by the powerful and rich front man, made out to be all sexy and cute,” she continues. “I’m a front woman and this is a chance for me to get my own back. As well as to remind the guys that it’s not all about the money and that they can be sexy and cute too.” The “Baby” hitmaker conveys that idea in the video by documenting an incredibly awkward date in a diner where women call the shots. Oh, and Anna ends up falling in love with an ice cream cone. Watch below.
