Allday & The Veronicas Battle Boredom In Their “Restless” Video

A couple of weeks ago, Allday and The Veronicas dropped one of my favorite songs of the year. “Restless” is an unusually honest breakup anthem with enough hooks to fill a hardware store. “Where did this come from darling? Out of the blue,” the Aussie artist laments. “Did you only love me when you had nothing else to do?” Instead of getting the hint, delusion has set in by the chorus. “And I would change my stripes,” The Veronicas sing on his behalf. “These days you’re restless and you need some time.” It won’t end well, but sometimes you have to stick around for the bitter end.

The video arrives today (June 25) and it’s a love letter — of sorts— to Allday’s hometown. “I went back to Adelaide to shoot all the videos for this album and I wanted to capture the desolation and boredom of the place,” the 28-year-old tells Nylon. “Growing up in a boring place was fantastic for me because it sparked my imagination,” he continues. “We used that as inspiration, and exaggerated a lot of the light and dark aspects of the place for this video.” It works well, celebrating both the mundane and the surreal.

“Restless” is the latest single from Allday’s Starry Night Over The Phone — a clever riff on Van Gogh’s “Starry Night Over The Rhone.” It drops on July 12 via Ultra Records and will be supported by a co-headline tour of North America with Mallrat.
