Laine Hardy Drops 'Flame'
The 18-year-old wins 'American Idol' and drops a single called 'Flame.'

Alejandro Aranda didn’t win the most-recent season of American Idol, but that isn’t necessarily a disadvantage as Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson can attest. Not only that, but Scarypoolparty (his artist name) shook the franchise to its very foundations by performing original songs and left-of-center covers when obliged. The newcomer’s individuality shines through on his alt-leaning debut single. “Tonight” was co-written with Twin Shadow and finds the 25-year-old opening his heart over mellow synths.

“Maybe we’re done here let’s call it the worst thing that we had, but maybe it’s not that bad,” Scarypoolparty laments. “I pick up your phone and see them, oh you’re leaving me out.” The lyrics tumble out in a stream of consciousness that gives the song unexpected intimacy, while the chorus packs a punch. All in all, “Tonight” is one of the best debuts from any Idol contestant and promises great things for the newcomer’s debut LP. Listen below and be sure to catch him on tour this summer.
