UPDATE: Brooke opened up about “XXXTC” in a press release. “I’m so excited to be dropping my first single from SEXORCISM. The album was put together in four days and “XXXTC” was the first song that was made. To us, it was the most special and the most fun. It’s a female-empowering stripper anthem about owning your own sexuality, but I think it has universal appeal. Hopefully everyone thinks so, too!”

Brooke Candy was not joking about her goal of reclaiming the title Freaky Princess in 2019. The 29-year-old has big plans as she gears up to unveil her debut album SEXORCISM. Back in March she made a splash with her industrial single “Happy.” The accompanying video was even more eye-popping. That paid tribute to four elements key to her art: Shibari bondage, sexuality, raw emotion, and surrealism. And it was just a taste of what she has in store moving forward. Today (July 2), she links up with Charli XCX and Maliibu Miitch on her new single “XXXTC.”

Based on the title alone (it is pronounced “ecstasy”), it should be clear that her latest takes Brooke one step closer to achieving her goal. On it, the hitmaker throws it back to her “Das Me” days with an in-your-face depiction of sexuality. She and her fierce collaborators ride a borderline pornographic beat (think “Wait (The Whisper Song)” by the Ying Yang Twins). And the lyrics are appropriately NSFW art. This is especially true on very easily chanted chorus. It’s all very explicit. But the celebration of female sexuality serves multiple purposes.

Chiefly, it subverts gender roles and celebrates confidence in a way that should be very welcome in 2019. All I can hope is that Brooke is able to get everyone together for a music video. If so, it is bound to be one of the most unforgettable releases of the year. In the meantime, give “XXXTC” a listen below.
