Katy Perry Reflects On Mending Things With Taylor Swift

Last month Katy Perry and Taylor Swift brought peace to the music world with a plate of cookies. No, really. The duo decided to call it quits on a longstanding feud and made it official by sharing a photo of a shared sweet treat on social media. But it turns out that a lot more went into mending the relationship. In an interview on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, the “Never Really Over” diva opened up about how it really happened. “It kind of was a process. I sent her a literal olive branch and a note apologizing for my part in all of it when she started her Reputation Tour,” she explained.

What sparked Katy’s decision? “I just thought, you know, she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support. And truly, as I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common,” she explained. “Maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from.” Some time later, she took the next step. “I just went up to her and I was like, ‘Hey, you know, it’s been a long time, and I think we’ve grown up a little bit,'” she said. “‘You know, I hope that we can be friends in the future.'”

That led to the meeting over cookies at Taylor’s house. While she was there, Katy also met the “You Need To Calm Down” hitmaker’s cat. “I said, ‘The only way I’m coming to your house is if I can hold your new cat,'” she added. And that was that. “We’ll see each other in the halls of the music industry and not avoid each other. And we’ll embrace,” she gushed. “I think it’s amazing that we have this opportunity to change, and I just hope that other people can learn from it, too.” Hopefully they’re also able to get together for a pop-saving collab.

After seeing them together in Taylor’s latest video, I’m even more certain that I need an official duet. In the meantime, check out the rest of Katy’s interview here.
