Tegan And Sara Wind Back The Clock With “I’ll Be Back Someday”

Earlier this month, Tegan and Sara revealed that they would be releasing a concept album (of sorts) on September 27. Hey, I’m Just Like You, the duo’s 9th LP, is a product of researching their upcoming memoir, High School. The pop veterans discovered two cassettes containing their very first songs, written between the ages of 15 and 17, and then decided to reinvent them. The project’s lead single is called “I’ll Be Back Someday” and it’s a rollicking burst of teen angst played out over pop-punk riffs and sweet harmonies.
“We had been begging for an electric guitar, and on our 16th birthday, we got one,” Sara recalls. “Of course, we had to share it, so it became a weapon that we stole from each other’s rooms, barricading ourselves behind locked doors with guitar in hand. Screaming over the small amplifier, we tested our voices by writing punk songs, shredding our thumbs on the strings.” One of the songs written on that very guitar was “I’ll Be Back Someday.” Impressively, it still holds up twenty-something years later.
