Iggy Azalea Talks ‘In My Defense’ Chart Performance & New Material

Iggy Azalea pulled off an impressive feat with In My Defense. The rapper ensured her long-awaited sophomore album was exactly the way she wanted it. That turned out to be a wise decision. The tracklist delivers the full spectrum of bangers and is a solid listening experience. Thankfully, it’s a move that is transitioning into some recognition on the charts. This week, the LP, her first body of work since ending a contract with Island Records, debuted at number 50 on the Billboard 200. That’s a massive jump from last year’s Survive The Summer, which peaked at 144.

However, Iggy sees room for improvement. She reflected on the album’s performance in a series of tweets. “As long as I do better each time I try to achieve something, I keep on going. A mile a head would be great! but all I need is an inch forward for me to know I’m aiming in the right direction,” she wrote. “There are two options. Quit. Or shut up And just keep fighting,” she added in a second message. And she made it abundantly clear that nothing would get her down. In fact, the “Started” hitmaker informed us that there are already plans to work on more material. “Two weeks till I’m back in the Studio,” she teased.

“Woke up today feeling a little defeated, ending the day feeling motivated.” As I mentioned in my review, this is the best part about Iggy’s new status as an independent artist. She can create whenever and however she wants without unexpected oversight or delays. With any luck, she’ll continue on her upward trajectory with more material in the very near future. In the meantime, check out some of her tweets below.
